Anyone know if this might possibly be the year of the dog? Actually, it's the year of the Ox. What a pity. Great chance for a year-long word play.

Happy Nude Year!

Something else I was thinking about earlier. I wonder if this is National Hangover Recovery Day or perhaps National Hangover Remedy Day? Someone's missing a grand opportunity if that's not the case. I can find lots of references to January first as National Hangover Day, but nothing official. I think I'll start a campaign.

Quote of the Day: "If you can lie on the floor without hanging on, you're not drunk."

-- Dean Martin

I don't know why I'm talking about hangovers. I never have them. Headaches either. I had half a bottle of pink champagne last night after midnight. Usually I have a drink or two as a lead up to the hour, but I didn't last night. Guess I'm getting to be an old fogie.

Today's Promise Message:

Yappy Hew Near

New Year is a time for reflection, for remembering, planning, and setting goals for the coming 12-month period. I've never been much of one for such things. Maybe this year. I haven't made an actual New Year's Resolution since I was in High School, and then it was part of an English class, if I remember correctly (and there's no guarantee of that). This year I resolve to stay in the shower until I completely run out of hot water, at least once. I resolve to play more music and learn to play better. I resolve to live in the moment more and to help as many others do the same as I can. Namaste.

(3:09 pm)

I thought about making a New Year's Resolution to make an entry here every day this year, but I realized before it was too late that's not likely to happen. Why set yourself up to fail? Instead, I'll just make an honest effort to not be as lax as I have been recently. It's coming up on the tenth anniversary of this enterprise. Who'd a thunk it? Certainly not me. I have no idea what the readership is anymore. I haven't checked usage in a long time. Okay, having said that, I went and checked last month's numbers. About the same as usual. Nothing up, nothing down. I guess I'm in a rut.

Today's Fortune:

What can I say?

It's all about patterns. Ritual, habits, ruts, schedules, agendas, recipes, to-do lists, forms, maps, diagrams. The one thing that remains is the pattern, the matrix that holds the fact, the events, every concept together. The patterns are an abstract that only exists in our minds, and our minds only exist in the making of the patterns. It's like Ouroborous, swallowing his tail, a cyclic logic where one part can only be understood in terms of the other part, and that part can only be understood in the opposite part. Infinite regression -- a feedback loop: See Infinite Regression.

Quote of the Day: "In every country and in every age, the priest has been hostile to liberty. He is always in alliance with the despot, abetting his abuses in return for protection to his own. It is easier to acquire wealth and power by this combination than by deserving them, and to effect this, they have perverted the purest religion ever preached to man into mystery and jargon, unintelligible to all mankind, and therefore the safer engine for their purposes."

-- Thomas Jefferson, to Horatio G Spafford, March 17, 1814

Hey! I resemble that.
Used without permission. If you have an objection to this use of this graphic, please contact me and I'll respond appropriately.

One day soon I'll talk about triggers. I'll probably expand on my little blurb about patterns as well. I can't seem to sustain a thought for very long these day. I suppose it could be ADD or something similar. Then it could be deterioration of faculties due to incipient aging.

'Sposed to be no temperature tonight or negative, even! Can't deal. Want warmth. Brrrrrrrrrrrr.

Today's Fortune:

I had plenty to write about earlier, but now. . .

Quote of the Day: "Inspiration is for amateurs."

-- Hugh Grant's character in "Music and Lyrics."

I guess that puts me firmly in the amateur category. I'm uninspired and unmoved to create much of anything. I have been attempting some recording, but it's not going well. It's getting closer to my birthday. That never helps. This time of year, I'm always in a down mood. I don't know if it's because of my birthday or because my birthday happens to be at the end of the shortest and typically coldest month of the year. Whatever it is, I'm rarely inspired this time of year. I'm trying, though. Honest I am.

Today's Fortune:

How about Give Up?

I've been more involved in music lately. Sean and I have been playing together more. We mesh real well. He's also playing in a metal group called LineWork. I'm glad to see him more involved in something he's passionate about. We are playing together in a band called Hillbilly PI too. We're also thinking of getting some people together and doing something jazzy/Zappaish. I'd really enjoy that.

Quote of the Day: "Govern a great nation as you would cook a small fish. Do not overdo it. "

-- Lao Tzu

I put up a MySpace Band Page earlier this month. Already I have close to 200 friends, several comments and dozens of hits on the music selections I've put up. I plan on changing the music as I get better quality selections ready. I almost have one. Soon as I can get someone to assist me, I'll finish it off and upload "Reverned Mojo's Boogie."
